Chronic stress has become an epidemic in our society where faster is better and we attempt to pack more obligations into our ever expanding schedules. Hundreds of studies have shown that when you’re stressed, your adrenal glands release adrenaline and cortisol. They flood your system and wreak havoc on your body and your hormones, which in turn, wreak havoc on your hair. Here are a couple of stress-reducing tips from our experts:
Meditation - One of the simplest forms of meditation is mindfulness. Focusing on what you see, hear, taste, touch and smell in the moment, prevents us from ruminating on something that already happened or worrying about something in the future
Progressive Muscle Relaxation - Involves relaxing all of the muscles in your body group by group. Start with a few deep breaths, then tighten and relax each muscle group, starting with your forehead and moving down to your toes
Aromatherapy - A centuries old remedy for relaxation and stress relief, emerging research suggests certain scents can alter brain wave activity and decrease stress hormones. Candles, diffusers and skin care products are a great place to start.
